Account structure and account identifiers

Each charge stored in Cloud Cruiser Express is billed against a unique account identifier (account ID) that identifies a billable entity. This account ID conforms to the hierarchical account structure SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS-ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss , where:

  • SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS is a Windows Azure Pack subscriber’s username padded or truncated to 36 characters
  • ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss is a subscription ID, also 36 characters.

The two components are separated by a hyphen.

Example and use

For example, if subscriber

has a website under subscription

then usage of that website is charged to account ID -06aa653e-20dd-4977-8023-15a25ab9f811

If the same subscriber incurs charges outside of any subscription, they are assigned to account ID

Both of these account IDs are considered customers in Cloud Cruiser Express. For more information about customers, see Managing customers.

The hierarchical nature of the account structure enables you to view charges at different levels in reports. You can look at the charges for individual subscriptions, roll them up to the level of individual subscribers, or view charges for all customers together. For more information on using reports, see Standard reports.

Changing the account structure

The ability to change the account structure is a premium feature available by upgrading to Cloud Cruiser. This gives you the ability to segment your customer base into more levels such as geographies and departments to analyze your business in more detail. You can even set up your account structure to be able to view charges pertaining to a specific VM or other infrastructure item.

To experiment with account structures, go to Administration > Account Structure . In Cloud Cruiser Express you can make changes but not save them.

Alternate account structures

This is a premium feature available by upgrading to Cloud Cruiser. You can create views of your account structure that enable users to view cost data through a different hierarchy. For example, organizing a report with the bottom level on top or with a middle level missing. This gives you more ways to analyze your costs.
