Setting up the data source

This article explains how to set up the Cloud Cruiser database as a data source for HPE Consumption Analytics Portal Server. It is part of the procedure Installing and configuring Cloud Cruiser Analytics.

Before you begin

  • Your Windows user account must have Write permission or higher to the Cloud Cruiser installation directory tree as described in the last step of the procedure in Installing the Cloud Cruiser application.
  • If you use Oracle as your Cloud Cruiser database server, you must install the Oracle driver for Cloud Cruiser Analytics Server. Contact HPE Support for this driver.

To set up the data source

  1. If you installed HPE Consumption Analytics Portal Desktop and Cloud Cruiser on separate machines, copy the directory <install_dir>/analytics from the Cloud Cruiser machine to a location of your choosing on the Cloud Cruiser Analytics Desktop machine.
    This enables you to open files from this directory in Cloud Cruiser Analytics Desktop.
  2. Double-click the file <install_dir>/analytics/datasource/<databaseType>/charges.tds to open it in HPE Consumption Analytics Portal Desktop.
    If you receive a Custom SQL Warning message, click Yes to connect.
  3. In the upper left corner of the HPE Consumption Analytics Portal Desktop window, right-click the charges data source and choose Edit Data Source.

  4. In the Microsoft SQL Server window, enter the server name and one of the following sets of credentials for your SQL Server database server, then click Connect.
    • (recommended) To work with only relevant database objects, enter the Reporting User name and password you created in the Database Settings screen of the Cloud Cruiser installer. The default reporting user is ccreport.
    • To work with all database objects, enter the Application User name and password you created in the Database Settings screen of the Cloud Cruiser installer.
  5. In the Database menu, verify that your Cloud Cruiser database is selected. The defult name for the database during installation is ccdb.
  6. Click Go to Worksheet, then right-click charges and choose Publish to Server.
  7. In the Server field of the Tableau Server Sign In box, enter the hostname and port of your HPE Consumption Analytics Portal Server machine, and then click Connect. For example, enter localhost:8080
  8. In the Username and Password fields, enter the administrator username and password you created when you installed HPE Consumption Analytics Portal Server, and then click Sign In.
  9. In the Select Site dialog box, select CloudCruiser and then click OK.
    The Publish Data Source to Tableau Server dialog box appears.
  10. In the Authentication field, select Embedded password.
  11. Under Refresh Extract, for the Full option select Weekday early mornings.
    HPE Consumption Analytics Portal Server will query the Cloud Cruiser database at 4am every weekday and update its extract with current data. Make sure that any Cloud Cruiser jobs that run nightly and publish data are scheduled early enough to finish before 4am.
  12. Click Publish, and then click OK in the dialog box that confirms that the data source has been successfully published.
    If you are prompted to embed credentials, click Yes.

It is not necessary to save the workbook.
