Documentation - HPE Usage and Analytics

Managing data sources

You define the data source(s) from which HPE Consumption Analytics should collect usage data, and provide the credentials for accessing that data.  HPE Consumption Analytics collects data from your sources every night.  You can add as many data sources as you need, including multiple sources of a particular provider.  For example, you can add several Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and/or Google Cloud Platform (GCP) data sources.

To navigate to the Data Sources page

  1. Click Details on the All Tracked Cost card in your HPE GreenLake Central dashboard:

The HPE Consumption Analytics Dashboard page displays, showing your default analytics dashboard:

  2. Click Data Sources.
    The Data Sources page displays:

The Data Sources page lists all of your data sources. From here, you can view the history and status of an existing data source, add a new data source, or edit an existing one.

Adding new data sources

You can add a new public cloud data source from this page (HPE GreenLake data sources are added to your tenant when you subscribe to them).

Before you add a data source, you must assemble the information required to connect HPE Consumption Analytics to your source data, as described in the topics for each provider.

For detailed information about assembling those credentials and adding data sources for specific providers, see the following topics:

To add a data source

  1. Click the Add Data Source button
  2. Select Amazon AWSMicrosoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform to display the Create <Provider> Data Source wizard.

For step-by-step instructions to create the data source, refer to the onscreen help in the wizard.

Viewing the history and status of a data source

As shown above, the Data Sources page provides some information about each data source: the data collection status and state, the provider, whether or not the collection is enabled, and the earliest collection start date.

To view more detail for a data source

  • Click the name of the desired data source in the Data Sources page
The data source Overview tab displays:

The Overview tab shows:

  • The provider
  • The status and state of the data source source
  • Whether the data source is currently enabled
  • The collection start date and the date the collection was last updated
  • Comments (optional)
  • The source currency for cost data
  • Whether the data source is referenced by any rule sets (see Working with data rules).

For HPE GreenLake data sources, the account name and account ID are also shown in the Overview tab.

The data source credentials are shown here for public cloud data sources.

  • For AWS data sources, the report type and name used to collect usage data are also shown.
  • For GCP data sources, the key file, dataset, secret key, and table are also shown.

Under the Data Collection heading, the next scheduled collection date is shown, along with the number of days in the current quarter for which data is missing, and a status bar to help you visualize the collection status.  Green segments of the bar indicate successful collection of data, while grey segments indicate data is missing for one or more days. If you mouse over a grey segment, HPE Consumption Analytics displays the range of dates for that segment, making it easier for you to identify the range you need to enter when recollecting data:

For Azure data sources, you can view subscription data, including the metrics to collect for each subscription, on the Subscriptions tab:

  • Click the Subscriptions tab to display the Azure subscription list:

For AWS data sources, you can view account data, including credentials and metrics to collect for each account, on the Accounts tab.

To view the AWS accounts list

  • Click the Accounts tab:

Editing data sources

You can edit the selected data source from the data source detail page if necessary.

If you change the Collection Start Date to an earlier date, HPE Consumption Analytics starts the collection process for the added date range once you save the updated data source.

To edit a data source

  • Click the Edit Data Source button to display the Edit <Provider> Data Source wizard, and modify the data source information as needed.

For step-by-step instructions to modify the data source, refer to the onscreen help in the wizard.

What to do next

After creating a collection, you can create reports, charts, and dashboards to view your usage and cost.  You can also create data rules that will supplement and transform your data before it is used in reports.
