Cloud Cruiser became HPE Consumption Analytics on Nov. 1st. You'll still see the old name in places while we update this site.

Capacity planning

The Capacity Planning page lets you track and forecast usage against an installed capacity, which represents the capacity available for use on a day-to-day basis. This can vary as hardware is brought in and out of service for maintenance purposes.  In addition to the actual usage, you can also view forecasted usage based on historical data.  These values are represented in a chart at daily granularity and in a table on a per-month basis.

Selecting an account

This only applies if you have access to data for more than one account.  Else you can skip to Viewing data.

To select an account

  1. Click the Account dropdown
The list of available accounts is displayed.
  2. Click the name of the desired account.
The chart(s) and table(s) update to display the corresponding account's data.

Viewing data

Viewing daily data

The chart displays each day's actual/forecasted usage and installed capacity details for detailed inspection.

To view daily values

  1. Hover the mouse pointer in the area with the solid line in the chart (it does not need to be precisely on the line).
The actual usage and installed capacity display for the corresponding day.
  2. Hover the mouse pointer in the area with the dotted line in the chart (again, it does not need to be precisely on the line).
The forecasted usage and installed capacity display for the corresponding day.

Viewing monthly data

The table below each chart shows the monthly average for the actual/forecasted usage and installed capacity, and indicates whether a value has increased () or decreased () from one month to the next.

Viewing committed and requested capacities

If viewing an HPE GreenLake Flex Capacity account, you can view committed capacity and requested capacity as two additional data points in both the chart(s) and table(s).

These are defined as follows:

Term Definition
Committed Capacity A minimum level of a given resource for which a customer has agreed to pay.
Requested Capacity The resources installed to satisfy the committed capacity.
  • Since these values are assigned per meter, they will only be displayed either when the data is not grouped and aggregated by Service Category (e.g., Storage, Compute, etc.), or when the data is grouped by its Meter Name.  See Grouping data.
  • The values can be viewed at both daily and monthly granularities; see Viewing daily data and Viewing monthly data, respectively.

In the following example, both data points are displayed:

Forecasting usage

You can forecast usage for a specified future timeframe, based on historical values from a selected period, using one of three forecasting methods.

To forecast usage

  1. Click the Forecast Method dropdown.
A list of available forecasting methods displays.
  2. Select the desired forecasting method.
The chart(s) and table(s) update accordingly.
  3. Click the Base Forecast On dropdown.
A list of historical timeframes displays.
  4. Select the time period on which to base your forecast.
The chart(s) and table(s) update accordingly.
  5. Click the Forecast Period dropdown.
A list of future timeframes displays.
  6. Select the time period for which to forecast.
The chart(s) and table(s) update accordingly.

Grouping data

The default layout for Capacity Planning aggregates the data for each Service Category, to provide the highest level view across the data.  However, you can refine this to a more granular view by grouping the data based on selected fields.  Choosing one or more fields to group the data will create a single chart and table per selected field or group of fields.

To group data by field(s)

  1. Click the Manage Groups link on the left side of the page.
The Manage Groups dialog will display.

  2. Check the desired field or fields in the Select fields pane at left (you can use the Search option to narrow the list of fields to choose from).
The selected fields will display in the Set grouping order pane at right.  The top field represents the first level at which the data will be grouped.  Each field that follows is a sub-group within the group above it.

  3. You can drag and drop the fields in the Set grouping order pane if you want to change their order.

  4. Click Save to apply the grouped fields.
A chart and table per field combination is displayed; the first is expanded to view and the others are hidden.

  5. Click the arrow icon of a hidden group to expand its chart and table.

  6. Click the arrow icon of an expanded group to hide its chart and table.
