Dimensions and measures for Cloud Cruiser Analytics

Table of contents

This article describes the fields available from the ccdb data source when editing workbooks in HPE Consumption Analytics Portal Analytics. This data source is a join of the Database views for reporting that enables you to view charge data aggregated to any level of your customer hierarchy.

Key fields to consider using in your analysis:

  • RevenueCost, Profit, and Profit Ratio: Standard financial numbers for any business.
  • Service Group and Service Description: Use these to slice by what you're charging for. The latter is the human-friendly name for a resource.
  • AccountingDateAccountingPeriod, and AccountingYear: Use these to slice your data by time.
  • ResourceUnits and ResourceUnitDescription: Use these to show how much of a resource was used.
  • ResourceGroupOrder and ResourceOrder: Use these to display resources in the same order they appear in standard reports.
  • ResourceRateType: Use this to differentiate revenue from cost.

Dimensions

Dimensions are fields that contain qualitative or categorical information. They provide context around the value of a measure, answering questions like "What type?" and "When?" Dimensions usually produce headers when you add them to the Rows or Columns shelves in a worksheet, and you can also use them to filter the data shown.

When editing a HPE Consumption Analytics Portal Analytics worksheet, dimensions are displayed by database view. Some dimensions have been placed into hierarchies to allow you to drill down into hierarchical data, and these dimensions are displayed under their hierarchy rather than the database view that provides them.

The ccdb data source contains the following dimensions:

View/Hierarchy Name Dimension Name Description

ReportAccountStruct0

(database view)

AccountUID The unique ID for the customer account to which the charge applies. This corresponds to an account ID that would appear in reports and CC Records. The AccountUID allows the database to work with a single value rather than the multiple values at different levels of your account structure that make up an account ID.
StructureName The name of the account structure view. In the ReportAccountStruct0 database view this will always be default.

ReportSummary

(database view)

AccountingDate The date for which the usage is charged. Only the date is relevant, as the time in every record is 23:59:59.000. This date does not necessarily match the date in the UsageStart or UsageEnd columns.
AccountingPeriod

The accounting period in which AccountingDate falls. This might not be the same as the number of the calendar month in which that date falls, depending upon the day of the month that the customer's accounting periods begin.

Example: If AccountingDate is March 10th but the customer's accounting day is 15, their billing periods begin on the 15th day of the month and the AccountingPeriod is 2, not 3.

AccountingYear The accounting year in which AccountingDate falls. This might not be the same as the calendar year in which that date falls, depending upon the day of the month that the customer's accounting periods begin.

Example: If AccountingDate is January 4th, 2015 but the customer's accounting day is 15, their billing periods begin on the 15th day of the month and this date falls in the twelfth period of the previous year. AccountingYear is 2014, not 2015.

CurrencyCode Not used in this release. The value is always usd.
CurrencyComments Comments defined for the resource revision in effect on AccountingDate. This is the Comments field in the Rate area of the Billing > Services window, different from the Comments field at the level of the resource.
LoadGroupUID The unique ID of the load group in which this record was loaded into the HPE Consumption Analytics Portal database
RatePlan The name of the rate plan that supplied the pricing used to calculate the total charge. Rate plans define ResourceDetailType, ResourceChargeInterval, FixedAmount, VariableRate, and CurrencyComments.
ReportSummary_AccountUID Duplicate of AccountUID, which came from ReportAccountStruct0.
ResourceActiveStatus The Active option defined for the resource. An Active resource can be used for charging, an Inactive one cannot.
ResourceAllocationType The Allocated option defined for the resource. An Allocated resource is charged for access to the resource over a given time interval, a Non-allocated resource is charged for accumulated consumption of the resource.
ResourceChargeInterval The interval to which the rate for the resource applies. This value is Daily for non-allocated resources.
ResourceComments The comments defined for the resource
ResourceDetailDescription The tier or state value for the resource. Null for a resource with a ResourceDetailType of Standard.
ResourceDetailID The unique ID of the record in the ReportDetail view that contains more detail about the usage charged in this record
ResourceDetailType The rate type for the resource: Standard (shown as Basic in the HPE Consumption Analytics Portal Portal), Tier, or State
ResourceGroupOrder The number assigned to the resource group for sorting in the Billing > Services window and in reports. Groups are sorted by this number in ascending order.
ResourceHeader The name defined for the resource. Sometimes this is also referred to as the resource's ID.
ResourceHiddenStatus The Hidden option defined for the resource. A Visible resource appears in standard reports, a Hidden one does not.
ResourceOrder The number assigned to the resource for sorting in the Billing > Services window and in reports. Within their group, resources are sorted by this number in ascending order.
ResourceRateType The direction of the charge for the resource. A Price resource is revenue charged to your customer, a Cost resource represents a cost of goods sold.
ResourceUnitDescription The units displayed in reports for the resource. For example, GB or tickets.
RevisionEffectiveDate The starting date of the resource revision in effect on AccountingDate
RevisionTerminationDate The ending date of the resource revision in effect on AccountingDate
UsageEnd The date and time when this usage started
UsageStart The date and time when this usage started
UserFlag1 The User Data 1 string defined for the resource in the Billing > Services window. This flag is intended for any custom categorization you need for reporting beyond the other properties you set for a resource, and its value does not affect HPE Consumption Analytics Portal operation.
UserFlag2 The User Data 2 string defined for the resource. See the description for UserFlag1.

Account

(field hierarchy)

Level1Desc The description defined for the Level1 account ID if a customer record exists
Level<num>Desc The description defined for the Level<num> account ID if a customer record exists. These columns too are populated up to the last level of your account structure. Any levels below the customer account represented by the record show the description from the customer's level.

Account ID

(field hierarchy)

Level1 The portion of AccountUID at the first level of your account structure. If the account represented by the record is at the top of this hierarchy, then this is its complete account ID.
Level<num> The portion of AccountUID from the first level through level <num>. These columns are populated up to the last level of your account structure, with any levels below the customer account represented by the record being padded with spaces to the appropriate length. So as <num> rises the last column where visible characters are appended to the account ID is the level of AccountUID.

Service

(field hierarchy)

Service Group The name of the resource group of which the resource is a member
Service Description The description defined for the resource, which is displayed in reports in place of its name
(None) Measure Names Contains the names of all measures in a single field. Use in conjunction with Measure Values to display multiple measures in the same pane simultaneously.

Measures

Measures are numeric fields containing quantitative information. They are the "how much" information and usually produce an axis when you add them to the Rows or Columns shelves in a worksheet. The ccdb data source contains the following measures:

Name Description
Cost Calculated field aggregated for all rows. If ResourceRateType is Cost, this measure is equal to TotalAmount. Otherwise it is zero.
Display Measure Calculated field aggregated for all rows, and based on the user-selected parameter Select Measure. When the user selects Revenue, this measure is equal to the Revenue measure. When the user selects Cost, this measure is equal to the Cost measure.
FixedAmount The amount of fixed charges
Profit Calculated field aggregated for all rows. Equal to Revenue minus Cost.
Profit Ratio Calculated field aggregated for all rows. Equal to Profit divided by Revenue, or zero if Revenue is zero.
ResourceRate The variable rate for the resource
ResourceUnits

The total amount of the resource for AccountingDate. For allocated resources, this is the collected amount prorated by the ResourceChargeInterval. It can be higher or lower than the value of ResourceUnitsAllocated depending upon a few variables:

  • How many times the resource was collected during the usage period
  • The length of the ResourceChargeInterval
  • Proration settings used for the charge
ResourceUnitsAllocated The raw value collected for the resource, averaged if collected more than once during the usage period
Revenue Calculated field aggregated for all rows. If ResourceRateType is Price, this measure is equal to TotalAmount. Otherwise it is zero.
TotalAmount The total charges applied to the usage in the record. This represents FixedAmount plus VariableAmount.
VariableAmount The amount of variable charges. This represents ResourceRate multiplied by ResourceUnits.
Number of Records The number of rows currently shown. This value changes as filters are applied.
Measure Values Contains the values of all other measures in a single field. Use in conjunction with Measure Names to display multiple measures in the same pane simultaneously.
