This article is part of To collect, transform, and publish data:

1. Create a workbook

This article explains how to create a new workbook. For more information about workbooks, see ETL workbooks.

To create a workbook

  1. Go to Data > Workbooks.
    The Workbooks page appears.
  2. In the Workbook tab on the ribbon, in the Workbook group, click New.
  3. Enter a name for the workbook and, optionally, a description.
You are prevented from typing characters that aren't allowed in a workbook name, such as spaces.
  4. If you want to use a template as a starting point for your workbook, select Create Workbook from Template, then select a template from the list that appears.
Templates are workbooks that already contain collections that collect the most commonly-used data and flows that perform transformation that this data usually needs. A template is unlikely to meet your needs as is, but will save you from configuring collections and flows from scratch and help you align with best practices.
Templates are displayed here grouped by data source. For advice on which one to choose, see the documentation for your data source in the list on Collecting, transforming, and publishing.
  5. Click OK.

Your new workbook opens.

If you created the workbook from a template, read the workbook description to gain a high-level understanding of how its parts work together and read the comments in individual steps and processors to understand in detail how they work.

If you attempt to edit a workbook while another person is editing the same workbook, HPE Consumption Analytics Portal displays the following error message and prevents you from saving your changes:
Unable to save Workbook: Version out of date (modified by another)

If you want to collaborate with other people on the same workbook, ensure that only one person at a time is editing that workbook.
