Mapping data to Cloud Cruiser

Data processing in Cloud Cruiser is based on a simple, generic data structure comprised of resources and identifiers. The collector produces a CSV record per object and stores the data for immediate processing as well as for re-processing when necessary. Identifier values support many data processing operations such as deriving new resources, table lookups, creating new identifiers, and conditional processing. Identifiers that exist when transformation completes are loaded with the associated resources for advanced reporting and drill down capabilities.

The account structure is hierarchical and costs can be applied at any level in the hierarchy (see Working with account structures). Resource usage is associated with a cost account based one or more identifiers in some form or fashion. By default, cost accounts are looked up by the PrincipalName identifier using a translation table. Translation tables can be maintained in Cloud Cruiser and support regular expressions, value ranges, and one-to-one mappings.

Resources

Each managed object in System Center represents a resource in use and any property can be captured as a resource identifier. These identifiers, or attributes, are manipulated by a batch processing flow that you can customize.

Resource rates are maintained in Cloud Cruiser and can be applied based on duration of allocation or utilization or a combination of the two. Multiple rate structures for the same set of resources can exist for pricing variations by customer group (set of accounts).

Once loaded, resource data can be analyzed and reported on. Common reports ship with the product along with advanced ad-hoc reporting capability. Customer reports are available based on request.

Identifiers

Data from multiple monitoring classes can be correlated based on principal name or other common identifiers as needed to determine charges and support reporting requirements.
